Service Description

A focused, self-paced art class for motivated young artists who are ready to take their skills further. Students will build a strong foundation in the elements of art, principles of design, a variety of artistic materials and techniques, and artists and movements throughout art history—then use what they learn to develop work of their own. The course begins with more teacher-led instruction, giving students the skills, vocabulary, and confidence they need to work independently. As the semester progresses, it becomes increasingly choice-based and individualized. Students will choose subjects, materials, and ideas that interest them, while the instructor provides guidance, technical support, and feedback throughout the process. Students will have the opportunity to develop more complex, multi-week projects, experiment with different media, solve creative problems, and make thoughtful decisions about their work. The goal is not simply to complete projects, but to help students learn how artists think, explore, and develop their own ideas. This class is a great fit for students who are ready to work hard, sustain their attention, challenge themselves, and take greater ownership of their creative process. It is also a strong option for students beginning to build a portfolio for high school, college, scholarships, or other applications, with time and support to create polished, original work that reflects their abilities and individual interests. All materials are provided. Ages: 12–18 The age range is set to support the structure and expectations of the class, but exceptions may be considered with teacher approval. *Please note: Class will not meet on November 26 or December 3, but the full 15 sessions are included.
